About Me
Hi, I’m Dr. Charles DeLeeuw…
I’m a licensed clinical psychologist (CA PSY 28003) specializing in mindfulness-based therapy. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported as you navigate life’s challenges. Therapy is a deeply personal journey, and I believe in approaching each person with kindness, empathy, and a deep respect for their unique experiences. I recognize that our personal and cultural backgrounds shape who we are, and I am committed to providing therapy that honors your unique story.
I completed my APA-accredited internship at Pacific Clinics and a postdoctoral residency at the VA Pacific Islands Healthcare System, where I focused on trauma treatment. Over the years, I’ve worked with individuals facing a wide range of challenges—from processing painful past experiences to reconnecting with what makes life truly meaningful. No matter where you are in your journey, I’m here to help you move forward in a way that aligns with your values and goals.
When I’m not working, you can find me on the tennis court or spending time with my dog, Henry. I live in Los Angeles with my family, and I believe that connection—whether with ourselves, others, or community—is at the heart of a fulfilling life.
If you’re ready to explore therapy or have any questions, I’d love to hear from you.
Sometimes we spend years climbing a ladder, only to reach the top and realize it’s leaning against the wrong wall

-
Individual Therapy
Life is full of transitions, challenges, and unexpected turns. Whether you're navigating stress, anxiety, self-doubt, depression, grief, or major life changes, therapy offers a space for self-exploration and growth. My approach is rooted in mindfulness, self-compassion, and evidence-based techniques to help you build resilience, cultivate meaningful connections, and live in alignment with your values. Together, we will explore patterns that may be holding you back and develop tools to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
-
Couples Therapy
Relationships can be both deeply fulfilling and incredibly challenging. In couples therapy, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and a skills-based approach to help partners navigate conflict, strengthen communication, and reconnect with what truly matters in their relationship. Rather than getting stuck in the same unhelpful patterns, we’ll work on developing emotional flexibility, understanding each other’s perspectives, and building practical tools to manage challenges with greater compassion and clarity. Whether you're facing a specific issue or simply want to improve your connection, therapy provides a supportive space to create a stronger, more meaningful partnership.
-
Adoption Journeys
Adoption is a deeply meaningful journey, filled with joy, complexity, and unique emotional challenges. Whether you’re an adoptive parent, a prospective adopter, or an adoptee yourself, I provide a compassionate space to navigate the emotional and psychological aspects of adoption. From attachment and identity concerns to the complexities of family dynamics, I am here to help you process your experiences, gain clarity, and build stronger connections within your family.
-
LGBT Affirming Therapy
Your identity, relationships, and experiences deserve to be honored and understood in a space that is fully affirming and supportive. Whether you’re exploring aspects of your identity, navigating relationships, dealing with societal pressures, or facing discrimination, therapy can be a transformative place for healing and self-acceptance. My approach is not only affirming but also deeply rooted in understanding the specific challenges and strengths of the LGBT community. You don’t have to navigate this alone—together, we can work toward greater self-confidence, empowerment, and connection.
-
Trauma Therapy
Trauma can leave lasting impacts on both the mind and body, making it difficult to feel safe, connected, or in control. Whether you’ve experienced a single traumatic event or ongoing distress, therapy can help you process and heal in a way that feels manageable and empowering. I work with individuals facing PTSD, complex trauma, and other stress-related challenges, using evidence-based approaches that integrate mindfulness and self-compassion. Together, we will create a space where you can safely explore your experiences, develop coping strategies, and move toward a sense of wholeness and resilience. Healing from trauma isn’t about erasing the past—it’s about reclaiming your present and building a future that feels meaningful to you.
-
Work and Career Burnout
Burnout can creep in slowly, leaving you feeling drained, unfulfilled, and disconnected from the work that once gave you purpose. When exhaustion, cynicism, or self-doubt take hold, it’s easy to wonder if you’ve lost sight of what truly matters. Therapy can help you navigate career stress, rediscover meaning in your work (or redefine success altogether), and create a more sustainable balance between ambition and well-being. Whether you’re struggling with workplace demands, career transitions, or questioning the path you’re on, we’ll work together to identify what needs to change—so you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Specialized Treatment for Trichotillomania
Trichotillomania, or hair-pulling disorder, can feel frustrating and isolating, but you are not alone, and effective treatment is available. This condition is more than just a bad habit—it’s a complex experience often driven by emotional triggers, sensory urges, or attempts to manage distress. In our work together, I use an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)-enhanced behavior therapy approach that helps you build awareness of pulling behaviors, develop strategies to interrupt the cycle, and practice mindfulness-based techniques to respond to urges in a way that aligns with your values. The goal isn’t just to reduce pulling, but to help you regain a sense of control, self-compassion, and freedom from shame. If you’re struggling with trichotillomania, we’ll work together in a supportive and nonjudgmental space to help you make meaningful progress.

Group Therapy
Group therapy is a powerful way to build connection, gain new perspectives, and practice skills in a supportive environment. My groups are based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and focus on helping individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, and trauma develop greater psychological flexibility. Together, we’ll explore mindfulness techniques, work on stepping back from unhelpful thought patterns, and commit to actions that align with your values.
Group availability is limited and depends on space opening up. If you're interested, please reach out to inquire about current or upcoming openings.
